Who is Harry Youren?
Harry Youren is a from a family generational, Idaho hound hunters. His family first came to Idaho and began hunting in the 1860’s. He is 30 years old and he’s been hound hunting for all of them—yes, his father Dusty took him cougar hunting since 1 year of age. On a daily basis, besides when his dogs are resting, you can find Harry hunting. He is a houndsman, cowboy, and a big game guide, but his pride and joy is working with his dogs.
Throughout his life, Harry has guided across the Pacific Northwest in Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and British Colombia. His family traveled to different regions to find the best hunting quite a bit in his first 20 years. He has learned to adapt to different areas and terrain, which helps him understand different types of game, an attribute few hunters have. For example, how may hunters can say they have been charged by a grizzly bear in Canada? Not many! You will have to ask Harry about his experiences while you’re hunting!
Harry is a rugged outdoorsman and has a touch of old-school to his hunting style. He grew up hunting while using the triangulation devices to find dogs, so he didn’t grow up using the new-age tech. Now, he uses Garmin gps collars and trackers, but that doesn’t detract from his will to hunt. When there aren’t critters crossing the road, Harry can out-walk anyone through and across draws to get a better chance at starting a chase.
Youren Outfitter’s goal is to expose more people to the experience of hound hunting with a knowledgeable, ambitious expert. Harry has great dogs, but they wouldn’t be as great as they are without years of a fantastic bloodline.
There’s the saying, “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.” At Youren Outfitters, you get hard work on top of talent. Harry can hunt, walk, and chase tirelessly, while also being natural outdoorsman.
Harry’s hounds do not have an unrivaled bloodline because him and his forefathers got lucky. As long as they can remember, they have always been hunting them, spending lots time chasing critters, and breeding dogs with careful attention to characteristics and family lines. So much hunting and time in the field brings out the maximum potential of his dogs.
Harry has also been on outdoor television multiple times. In the spring of 2019, he spent 6 weeks filming for History Channel’s ‘Mountain Men’. He will be on the show next season too! A couple years earlier, he was one of the main stars on TruTV’s ‘Way Out West’. These TV appearances certainly show off Harry’s know-how in the outdoors, but they only scratch the surface of what Harry is all about.
There is so much more that Harry has to offer hunters and outdoorsman alike. He is a wealth of knowledge and he’s the best person to spend time with if you want to do some serious Idaho predator.
